In its strategy report the Remuneration Board committed itself to gain a better understanding of the barriers and incentives people face when deciding whether or not to stand for election to the National Assembly for Wales.
The focus of the review will be on the areas within the Board’s remit, primarily the remuneration package made available to Members. It is one of the Board’s main priorities to discover whether there are ways within its remit that it can reduce the barriers to ensure that a wide range of people are attracted to running for election to the Assembly.
The Wales Governance Centre was successful in an open tendering process to undertake the research on behalf of the Board. To inform the review the Centre undertook a number of engagement opportunities, which included focus groups and an online survey.
Representatives from the Centre’s research team attended the Board’s meeting in July 2017, January 2018 and May 2018 to discuss the review. The report will be published in due course.
